Представление прошлого в Византии. Сполии с фигуративными изображениями на городских воротах Никеи (XIII век)

В византийскую эпоху в Анатолии известен ряд случаев вторичного использования фигуративных сполий (то есть фрагментов античных статуй, каменной резьбы, рельефов) при строительстве зданий или реставрации городских стен и укреплений. Особенно интересны сполии, использованные в оформлении главных городских ворот. В этой статье рассматриваются ворота внешних стен города Никеи (ныне Изник), возведенные во время правления императора Иоанна III Ватаца (1222‒1254). Они представляют особый интерес как пример богатейшей (по количеству и разнообразию использованных материалов) сохранившейся декорации. Ворота должны были производить сильнейшее впечатление в тот период, когда Никея считалась временной столицей Византийской империи. В статье проведено сравнение сохранившихся памятников и свидетельств письменных источников, как византийских, так и западных.
