«Русский Палладио»: об одном механизме освоения классики в отечественной архитектуре XX века

Интерес к Палладио был составляющей каждой из волн русской неоклассики XX века. Архитекторы обращались к мастеру, эксплуатируя его то как поставщика формул и мотивов, то как посредника между античностью и современностью, то как воплощение веры в закон, то как олицетворение прав на свободу высказывания.
Что определяет популярность Палладио в русской архитектуре? Прежде всего — вера в наличие за архитектурной формой закона, формулой которого становится ордер как парадигма соразмерности. Выбор Палладио в качестве посредника объясняется и спецификой «Четырех книг…», рассчитанных не только на коллегу-архитектора, но и на дилетанта.
Кроме того, рядом с «Палладио-классицистом» в истории искусств существует «Палладио-маньерист». Первый ищет закона, второй делает проявление этого закона в постройке индивидуальным; этот дуализм также лежал в основе «спроса на Палладио». Наконец, этот спрос определяла оторванность культуры от первоисточников античной классики. Советская архитектура утрачивала последние остатки изобразительности, последние связи с реальностью, с историей. Имитация истории требует и имитационной архитектуры, одним из основателей которой и был Палладио.
