Оранты Ротонды в Фессалониках: между идеальным и индивидуальным

Статья посвящена мозаичным изображениям орантов из Ротонды в Фессалониках. Обычно их интерпретируют как мучеников, но существует версия, что оранты представляют собой изображения ктиторов. С помощью иконографических аналогий и сведений агиографических источников в статье отстаивается традиционное прочтение данных образов. Далее в работе рассматриваются художественные особенности ликов Ротонды. Индивидуализированные образыорантов производят впечатление портретности. Данное качество оказывается нехарактерным для изображений святых рассматриваемого периода: всё более значимыми становятся черты, определяющие святого как категорию, а не личная характеристика конкретного человека. Тогда как лики мучеников Ротонды одновременно и подобны друг другу, и на уровне вариаций чрезвычайно разнообразны. Условные абстрагирующие приёмы трактовки ликов создают единство между изображениями, но в нюансах портреты святых демонстрируют широкий репертуар художественных средств, ложащихся в основу образного строя. Личностный подход к изображению святых позволяет сравнивать образы Ротонды с позднеантичным скульптурным портретом. Однако более условными и лишёнными индивидуальных особенностей становятся и сами скульптурные портреты. Изменение отношения к личности в портрете реальных людей и в образах святых в рассматриваемый период кажется нам аналогичным.
