The article is dedicated to the iconography of the equestrian archangel in Byzantine and post-Byzantine art, apparently prototypical and parallel to the Russian iconography “Archangel Michael the Voivode” (Commander of the heavenly host). The juxtaposition of corresponding monuments reveals both outward resemblance and consanguinity.
